Lord of the Art Studio

High I sit above the art studio

Watching as students swirl colors.

They think they're creating art.

Who am I to say?

Art for a cat is simple:

it's the brilliance of catching a grasshopper

with one try,

the grace of springing to the top of the wall

and making it look easy,

and most of all,

stealing all the food left unattended

by those diligent art students.

Umbrella Cats

We sat and watched

as the tourists hurried by,

trying to hide from the rain

as if there was a way to escape nature.

It was a scene we'd witnesses time and time again.

They pop off the bus on early June mornings,

sure that the day will clear off

so that they will be able to take fabulous pictures

of the medieval town they've come to see.

Instead, hours later, wet and cold,

they hurry back to catch the bus,

disappointed at Mother Nature's perseverance.

Once in a great while,

they see as as they hurry by,

always thinking the same thing:

why are the cats smart enough to have umbrellas

when we've left all of ours at home?
